Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice presidency and the highest ranking female politician in U.S history. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was the United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and then elected again in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator who worked for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling cannabis. A path towards citizenship for migrants who aren't legal. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her sharp questions of Trump administration officials at Senate hearings. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
